    North Coastal Mental Health Center serves young adults,adults and older adults with severe and persistent mental illness who are uninsured, indigent, or have Medical and / or Medicare insurance. We partner with our clients in their recovery to assist them in achieving their highest possible level of functioning with the goal of transitioning from our clinic to primary care providers. We provide a wide range of services to assist clients in their recovery and enhance their well-being. In partnership with clients and their significant others, we develop and enhance the coping skills of our clients.     Position Description

    The student Intern performs a range of psychotherapeutic and rehabilitative interventions, including psychosocial assessments, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention and limited case management duties as needed. In addition, the Student Intern serves as the Care Coordinator for clients,ensuring that they receive the full spectrum of services in a seamless manner and that they receive the optimal level of care needed to maximize functioning and minimize the need for higher levels of care. Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:

    • Working closely with Psychiatrist to monitor psychiatric well-being of clients.
    • Interacts therapeutically with clients and exhibits boundaries consistent with professional standards.
    • Completes all charting and documentation as contractually required and in a timely manner as directed by program requirements.
    • Displays regular and reliable attendance. Reports to and departs from work on time as scheduled.
    • Follows administrative chain of command.

    This position reports to the Program Manager.

    Education/Experience Requirements

    • Current enrollment in a Social Work, MFT, Counseling or Psychology graduate level program.
    • Some experience working with mentally ill populations is preferred.
    • Some experience working with acute psychiatric and dually diagnosed individuals is preferred.
