  • Program/Department Description

    Our Serial Inebriate Program (SIP) provides case management, transitional housing, and substance abuse treatment services in lieu of custody time for chronic inebriates. The program was initiated as a problem-solving effort to reduce the revolving door serial inebriate syndrome wherein chronic, homeless alcoholics go in and out of Detox Centers, County Jail, and local Emergency Rooms for the criminal offense of drunk-in-public.

    Position Description

    Job Summary

     

    The Mental Health Clinician promotes higher levels of wellness, stability and quality of life, assists in the prevention of acute psychiatric episodes or substance abuse relapses, and assists the client to lessen the debilitating effects of substance abuse and mental disorders. The Mental Health Clinician interacts with clients on a day-to-day basis providing individual and group counseling, as well as engaging in therapeutic and psychosocial activities.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains a caseload as prescribed by the Program Manager, providing a variety of services including group and individual counseling, client education, access to care, and crisis intervention.
    • Documents clinical files accurately. Acts as a liaison with the Probation Department
    • Performs mental health screenings, assessments, and service plans.
    • Co-facilitates treatment groups for clients with co-occurring disorders.
    • Co-facilitates treatment groups for clients with co-occurring disorders.

    • Initiates appropriate and timely interventions, provides resources on medication management issues and symptom management, and refers clients out for more intensive mental health services as needed.

    • Interacts therapeutically with clients and demonstrates appropriate boundaries consistent with professional standards.

    • Completes all charting and documentation as contractually required and in timely manner as dictated by program

      requirements.

    Education/Experience Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Masters Degree in Social Work or related field.
    • Must be a registered intern with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional (supervision porvided by Mental Health Systems).
    • Knowledge or experience working with dually diagnosed populations, homelessness, alcoholism and substance use disorders a plus.
