    ABOUT NORTH COASTAL ACT

    North Coastal ACT is an intensive and all-inclusive community based program serving adults diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness. The program includes psychiatric medication management, housing, employment, case management and peer support services  to assist clients with the rehabilitation and recovery goals.

    Position Description

    The Housing Specialist works with community organizations, government agencies and property owners to secure living arrangements, negotiate rents, deposits and move-in terms on behalf of clients. Manages lease agreements for short-term, transitional and permanent housing. Works with a team to ensure the availability of appropriate housing options for clients.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Locate housing opportunities in defined areas to meet short-term, transitional and permanent client-housing needs. 
    • Manage all lease agreements, including master leases and scattered-site leases. 
    • Prepare subsidy applications, maintain client housing files, and ensure rent calculations are accurate. 
    • Work closely with program service staff to understand individual client needs and preferences related to housing. Regularly communicate with the staff about housing alternatives and changes in availability. 
    • Assist in monthly tenant rent collection 
    • Work with professionals in the housing industry as well as advocates for disabled, homeless, senior citizens, veterans and low to moderate income persons. 
    • Attend public meetings and engage in community outreach to provide housing assistance information. 
    • Assist clients by driving them to housing locations and helping them to secure required documents for housing placement. 
    • Conduct bio-psychosocial and/or housing screenings and SPDAT Assessments and utilize the Coordinated Entry System (CES) database. 
    • Perform shift management duties in coordination with other ACT staff. Function as assistant to shift manager as assigned. 
    • Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPPA standards.

    Education/Experience Requirements

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum 2 years experience working with adults.
    • Fluency in English required; Fluency in other threshold language preferred.
    • Knowledge of Section 8 and HUD preferred.
    • Experience in Apartment Management and/or Leasing Agent preferred.
