    Position Description

    The billing clerk performs data entry, report writing and record compliance, and ensures timely completion of all billing and reimbursement functions. This position also works to compile, process, and maintain medical records of clinic patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Bill private insurance/secondary on HCFA 1500.
    • Enter billing charges/corrections.
    • Open client episodes, print face sheet as requested, and enter discharges/closing client episodes.
    • Create Medical Records and labels.
    • Operate office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems and personal computers.
    • Attend UBH Meetings and Updates.
    • Compiles and maintains patients' medical records to document condition and treatment and to provide data for research or cost control and care improvement efforts.
    • Enter data, such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment into computer.
    • Plans, develops, maintain and operates a variety of health record indexes and storage and retrieval systems to collect, classify, store and analyze information.
    • Protects the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
    • Processes patient admission and discharge documents.
    • Reviews records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulations.
    • Operate telephone switchboard to answer, screen and forward calls, providing information, taking messages and scheduling appointments.

    Education/Experience Requirements

    • High school diploma. AA degree or completion of basic accounting/clerical coursed preferred.
    •  A minimum of two years’ full-time experience performing billing duties in a similar setting.
